Just Waiting to be Discovered …

Our favorite daytime activities include walking tours of Ocean Grove, shopping along nearby Main Avenue, Cookman Avenue in Asbury Park and the Asbury Park Boardwalk. Let’s not forget all the beautiful beaches.

Later, attend a concert in The Great Auditorium, or discover one of the many local musicians playing at a favorite coffeehouse or restaurant. And when you stay at our Ocean Grove bed and breakfast, you could always enjoy a moonlit stroll along our famous boardwalk.

A Short History of Ocean Grove

Ocean Grove was selected by its founder, Dr. William Osborn, for its high beach, thick grove of pine, cedar and hickory trees, and the absence of mosquitoes. Natural boundaries were defined by two lakes and the ocean.

Our town is designated as a National Historic District and claims the largest aggregate of Victoriana in the country. It is a fine example of a 19th century planned urban community. The town was laid out so that the buildings nearest the ocean were built farther back from the street. This clever plan allowed most porches along the street to enjoy an ocean view.

The most impressive structure in Ocean Grove, and the center of activity since 1894, is the Great Auditorium. It continues to be used for Sunday services during the summer, and features cultural events and popular entertainment.
